Chapped lips sink ships

We all seem to want beautiful, luscious lips but often do very little to look after them. A good skin care routine should include the skin that frames our smiles too! Just like any other part of the body, lips can become dry and irritated if they are not taken care of.

Everyone loves the feeling of freshly exfoliated skin; smooth, silky and not to mention, super clean! Lips are no exception and should also be exfoliated from time to time. There are several lip scrubs on the market but you can make your own by using some brown sugar, honey and coconut oil. You can also use your toothbrush to gently exfoliate your lips, although that doesn’t sound nearly as tasty! Just remember not to over exfoliate – once a week is plenty. Lips are sensitive and can become quite sore if you overdo it.

Moisturising is one of the best ways we can look after our lips. It helps to keep them soft but also protects them! Applying lip balm in the morning and again before you go to bed helps to add some hydration back into your lips. This is particularly important during harsher seasons like summer and winter, as your lips can become chapped and can even get sunburnt! Many lip balms now have SPF in them, so if you know you’re going to be outside, make sure you apply some before you head out.
